Tanya Hinton: Winner of the Wiltshire Creative Open Exhibition 2020
Wiltshire Creative have just announced the launch of the 2021 Open Exhibition, which is being held at Salisbury Arts Centre from 13th July to 4th September 2021.
As you may know, Memory Fine Art has been a keen supporter of the Wiltshire Creative Open Exhibition for many years, having previously entered the competition and more recently been a judge for the competition as well as a prize sponsor.
Last year’s Open Exhibition was impacted by the pandemic but we were lucky enough to be able to hold the physical exhibition at Salisbury Arts Centre and actually invite people to attend during opening hours, which was well received and a great success under the circumstances.
In 2020, the winner of the Memory Fine Art Prize, for the amount of £200 and the opportunity to exhibit in the Memory Fine Art Gallery in Salisbury City Centre, was won by talented artist, Tanya Hinton. Tanya works from her studio on the banks of the River Wyle in Wiltshire and her work is said to ‘breathe new life into worn and weathered wood’.
Tanya creates unique pieces of art that combine the mediums of paint, with natural drift wood or reclaimed wood that she finds on beaches and various other locations. She uses the wood’s own natural lines, marks and patterns to inspire beautiful paintings of other natural phenomenon, painting in oils whilst stabilising and preserving the wood, often enhancing with gold leaf.
“I was brought up in a very ‘Bohemian’ creative household. My father was an artist, who established a highly successful business, sculpting and manufacturing model soldiers. Under his guidance, I learned about handling paint, colour mixing and attention to detail at a very early age.
My mother was an artist’s model and many creative friends of my parents would visit. Often left to my own devices in our ramshackle and run-down house on the Thames, I learned to entertain myself and that has stayed with me.”
You can view some of Tanya’s work at the Memory Fine Art Gallery on Winchester Street in Salisbury City Centre and we invite you to stop by this Summer to come and see what is on display.
Please also remember that we are currently open by appointment and that you can book a time to come and meet with me and view pieces from my collection, Tanya’s collection and also Sophia Sample’s collection, in person at the gallery (with Covid-19 safety measures in place).
